Classes: Beginning Flutes, Beginning Double Reeds, Beginning Saxophones, 6th Grade Band Coordinator I am very proud to be a part of the Elgin Band Staff. William Lewis is a native of Fairmount, Indiana. He received his BS in Music Education and Performance and MM in Music Performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He moved to Texas in 1983 to teach at Southwest Texas State Univeristy (Texas State) where his duties included teaching Applied Bassoon, Woodwind Methods, Introduction to the Arts, MIDI Applications, Introduction to Music Theory and performing in the San Marcos Woodwind Quintet. He won Principal Bassoon in the Austin Symphony in 1986 (he competed with players from as far away as Hawaii) and was named Principal Bassoon with the Austin Lyric Opera the same year. He is a clinician for MakeMusic and demonstrates Smartmusic and Finale. He has chosen the TMEA All-State Audition Music for Bassoon four times and has presented at TMEA Convention twice. In 1995 Mr. Lewis joined the staff at Elgin High School as Assistant Band Director. He teaches beginning flute, oboe, bassoon and saxophone classes as well as assisting the 7th and 8th grade bands and the High School Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band |
